KAYLIE HILL’S HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

We get a lot of email in the CatsAreUsTn@aol.com box.  Usually it is an advertisement, someone selling something, questions about cats, unfortunately too often emails from people who want us to take their cats but ever so often we receive special emails.  Special emails are those with photos attached of cats we have adopted to families and those families are sending us photos of their new family members as they grow up.  We love those emails.  But a couple days back we opened an email from someone named Susan Hill.  We had not adopted a cat to her so we expected the worst … she wanted to give us her cat.  In this instance that was NOT the case.

Susan HIll is the mother of a young lady named Kaylie and Kaylie had just celebrated her 9th birthday.  Kaylie is  9 years old and loves animals! Her Mom says she always has since being a little baby. Mom said her first laugh was at a cat falling into a play sand pail.  Mom said she thought the cat did it on purpose.   Kaylie first thought of the birthday party idea when Mom asked her what she wanted for her birthday and she said ” well, I kind of have everything I need” and the idea was born to do something for someone else and kitty cats were at the top of her list.   So at Kaylie’s party all her friends did just that … they brought cat stuff for presents.

She received cat treats, cat food, cat toys and all different kinds of cat things.  There were all kinds of special things just for the cats at Cats Are Us.

Kaylie’s Mom, Susan, made an appointment with Suzanne, Cats Are Us’ Director, to come to the rescue and drop off all her gifts.  Kaylie asked her Mom as she was coming up to the rescue, “Do you think there will be any cats there?” Upon arrival Kaylie waited patiently with a big smile on her face as everything was unloaded into the wagon they had brought with them.b3

Then she got to go inside and, yes indeed, there were so many cats to greet her!

It took about a minute to fill up the wagon with cats.

Kaylie’s Mom says Kaylie was born very premature. Weighing only 3 lbs when she was born. She spent 2 months in the NICU and came home on oxygen and an apnea monitor.   Kaylie quickly did away with that oxygen tube within 2 weeks.   The doctors were happy and she flourished more and more everyday.   Per Mom Kaylie was diagnosed officially with Cerebral Palsy when she was almost 2.   Kaylie has been through one major surgery at 2 and worked hard through all the physical therapy throughout these years.  Kaylie can walk in a walker also but steering is still a small issue.  Kaylie’s parents hope this improves before she wants to drive. 🙂  Mom says the wheelchair is her most independent way of travel when we are out and about.   Kaylie tests way above her age level cognitively and nothing gets past her.   Mrs. Hill says “Believe me NOTHING!”   She has dyslexia, so her reading isn’t always the best but she gets it.   She may be shy at first but once she warms up to you, expect to hear a lot about everything.   While she was at Cats Are Us yesterday she was scoping the place out and she does want to come back and donate some time to help the cats.

When I wrote her back after her first initial contact with us I told her she had a wonderful child for doing what she was doing and she must be one very good Mom.  Her response to me was, “She appreciated the compliment but I am here to testify it is her changing me.  Some days I see gifts in her that make me ask God how I am worthy to have this child.  You see my husband and I tried to have a baby for 8 years before we got the gift of Kaylie.  We adopted her. We knew the birth mother and got to be a part of the whole process.  Even though she was born early. we never considered not completing the adoption process and she has been a gift to us ever since.  Even when we went all over the US for certain therapy or procedures, she always wants to help.  When she got a little older it was about helping the younger kids at therapy not cry.  Just to tell them it was ok.  Even if she fussed the day before. 🙂  Kaylie is my teacher most days of patience and selflessness and just joy of the little things.  I think that’s what kids are supposed to teach us. I am the one that got this gift to take care of. ”

At the end of the visit for all of us it was all about the SMILE!

The smile was worth a million dollars!

Newest Looks From the Hill

Just an ordinary Monday morning at Cats Are Us.  Hmmmmm, well, maybe not!

Notice the new style of floor paints that have just been flown in from parts unknown.  It’s the new style called Painted Prints.  Yes, indeed, a can of paint that was to be used on the walls seems to have magically found little paws all in it once it was knocked off the shelf and onto the floor.

Not to be outdone are the newest fashions in fur as well.  This is the newest spiked look in Cat Fur.  The paint fell on the floor.  It did not fall on any cat but the cats enjoyed adorning themselves in a new streaked look from Chez Purrfecto.  Thank God it was a water base paint and washed off!

But what a way to start a week!

Tuesday Water Update at the Shelter

THE WATER IS BACK ON!

water is onCats Are Us wishes to express our thanks and unswerving gratitude to all the people who helped us and gave donations during our time of need.

It makes our hearts fill with joy in knowing the community came together to help us in our time of need so much!  We will forever remember the generosity shown to us by so many of you.

If our cats could tell you, they would say thank you as well.  You as a group have spoken for those who have no voice and you have spoken loud and strong!

Thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts for all your kindness and your generosity.  We could not do what we do without your support.

CATS ARE US THANKS EVERYONE!

MONDAY NEW UPDATE – Water, Water, Everywhere … still not a drop to drink! We need your support.

CATS ARE US NEEDS YOUR HELP!

faucet_drip

We have a bad water leak (25 thousand gallons this month).  The normal is around 2 thousand gallons!   We need gallons of water for the cats and for cleaning cages and liter boxes.  Someone will be there around 5 PM today (August 8, 2013).  If you have any gallon jugs you can fill and bring to the rescue, please do so.  Anyone who has access to be able to deliver a large amount of water for free will also be appreciated.  Cats Are Us is located at 119 New Providence Blvd., Clarksville, TN 37042.  Please contact (931) 503-0053 if you can offer assistance or have any questions.

no water

Cats Are Us is in a bad place until the leak can be found.  There will be NO water!!!   Anyone who is a  PLUMBER that would be willing to help us out either free or with a VERY low-cost is greatly appreciated.  We are hoping it is a water heater leak as that would be easier to repair or replace but NO WATER until we know.  All donations to help pay for what is going to be a huge water bill can be made by clicking on the PayPal link below.

UPDATE #1 – 8/8/2013:  It appears NOT to be the water heater.  The water folks have shut OFF the water.  The leak appears to be coming from the back flow.  This may turn into an expensive repair.  More work to be done tomorrow but water will be sorely needed to help at the rescue.  If you can help in any way, please we need you!

Thank you to everyone for you heart warming help.

UPDATE #2 – 8/9/2013:   First let me please express how heart-warming the donations of water and other donations have been.  You can tell by the photo, not only us at the rescue, but the cats at the rescue really appreciate all that everyone has done.  You have really shown us so much love and have really come together as a community when we were in need.  Your help is appreciated more than any of us can ever tell you.

The plumber took a look around today.  Unfortunately, it looks like there is a bad leak in the pipes under the back part of the rescue.  To get under the rescue to fix the pipes some concrete blocks are going to have to be knocked out.  On Monday the plumber will be back to fix the bad leak and maybe the back flow too.  It all depends on how much this is going to cost in the long run if we can do both.  The water should be back on by Monday evening.  Everyone cross your fingers!

We will make sure to keep you all updated on the situation at the rescue.  For today we have enough water to get by but the water will be off all weekend.  Keep that in mind if you would like to donate more water.  All donations will be greatly appreciated towards the plumbing costs.  Pretty sure this is NOT going to be cheap.

And again we say a special thanks to all who have helped out in the past few days.  You guys keep us going!

Thankful Kittens ... Great community helping those who cannot help themselves!

UPDATE #3 – 8/11/2013  Once again let me please express how heart-warming the donations of water and other donations have been. We may lose hope at times but then times like this are what make us know what we are doing is making a difference.

The cinder blocks have been removed.  Now we are just waiting for the plumber to arrive on Monday.  We are still without water.  The community as a whole has been wonderful in helping us keep water at the shelter for our animals and for cleaning purposes.  Please keep those donations coming.  We hope to be putting out an update on Monday evening that the water is back on.  However, that will depend on what the plumber finds when he gets under the building.  Everyone cross your fingers that it will be an easy and not too expensive a fix.

We will keep you updated on what happens Monday as soon as we know.  Once again thanks to the community of animal/cat lovers who have helped out during this crisis.  The world is a much better place because of you.

No Plumber Today

No Plumber Today

UPDATE #4- 8/12/2013  Well, folks, NO PLUMBER TODAY!  Apparently, it was an extremely busy day for the plumber and he could not make it.  We have a promise that he will be there first thing tomorrow morning.  Everybody cross your fingers this happens or our water supply may start to run low soon.  We will post a new update as soon as we know anything tomorrow,

We want to thank everyone once again for all the help, all the donations, and all the prayers.  You folks are what keeps us going!
